The finals of the 2012 Miss Universe Pageant went down last night at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. 20 year old Boston University undergrad Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss Universe 2012 by outgoing Miss Universe Angola’s Leila Lopes.

The event which was hosted by E!’s Guiliana Rancic and Bravo TV’s Andy Cohen saw Miss USA beat out 88 other beauty queens from around the world to become the first American lady to win the title since 1997.

The pretty lady representing Nigeria at the pageant Miss Isabella Ayuk failed to make it to the Top 16 with Miss South Africa being the only African to make it into the Top 16.

In May 2012 shortly after being crowned Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria 2012, it was reported that 26 year old (?) Isabella Ayuk had falsified her age in order to compete in the pageant (she was said to be in her thirties when she finally won the title after participating in past editions), thus introducing the county’s biggest pageant scandal since 2001 when Valerie Peterside was dethroned as Miss Nigeria for similar reasons. Ayuk did not represent Nigeria at Miss World, but was replaced by runner-up Damiete Charles-Granville.
