Last month Brymo revealed he was expecting his first child, when he shared a picture of his very pregnant girlfriend on Instagram. And while the former Chocolate City artiste & his boo, Esse ‘Ayanfe’ Kakada are looking forward to a new chapter in their lives.

Many have raised the question about the prevalent trend in the Nigerian music industry, which has seen a lot of male celebrities fathering children outside marriage. At the core of it Nigeria is still a very conservative society, however some people I spoke to are of the opinion that the rise of the baby mama/baby daddy may be eating into our moral fabric, while others feel the pressure to get married is the cause of the high rate of divorce, so having a kid before you find “the one” could be the way to go.

In an interview with Brymo he addresses why he is choosing to have a baby outside wedlock. Read what he said after the jump

How does it feel to be an expectant father?

It feels exciting and I can’t wait to lay my eyes on the little one. The excitement is skyscraper high.

Why did you choose to have a child out of wedlock?

Because a child is a product of love not of marriage. Marriage was made for men to get assistance from women and vice-versa, but society has bastardised the concept. I would rather pay attention to loving the woman I am with than seek the approval of society about it.

Was the pregnancy planned?

I wouldn’t wait till I am over 30 to venture into fatherhood. So, yes you can say it was planned.

How long have you known your baby mama and when do you plan to marry her?

We’ve been together for at least three years. You’ll definitely know when we decide to get married.

I totally agree with what he said about love. But I’m also a firm believer in marriage. Marriage for love not marriage just to have children.
