Nigeria’s U23 football team has had a very long and arduous 48 hours getting to Rio for their opening match at the Olympic Games.

The team who got stranded in Atlanta because of issues paying for their flight, arrived in Rio just 5 hours before their opening match against Japan.

Jet lagged and frustrated no one would’ve been surprised if they lost the game but they did us proud, winning 5 – 4.

Go Dream Team VI!!!

Oghenekaro Etebo was the star of the show, scoring four goals, while Umar Sadiq added the other goal to secure the win for Nigeria.

According to the Sports Ministry’s schedule, the U-23 team were to travel via a chartered flight on August 2 but this did not happen because the Ministry’s fund transfer failed! The next day the team refused to fly when they were offered a chartered small plane. They were then put on board a A 32-seater plane which flew the American basketball team a few days earlier to Brazil.
