Quadri-Aruna

No thanks to the Sports Ministry, Nigerian athletes are still somehow making us proud at the ongoing Rio Olympics.

Last night Aruna Quadri made history becoming the first African EVER to make it to the quarter finals stage of the men’s single table tennis event at the Olympics. The feat was recorded when last night Quadri beat the 13th ranked player in the world, Boll Timo of Germany 4 – 2.

In 10 minute Quadri ethered his German opponent; winning the first three sets 12-10 12-10, 12-5. Timo took the 4th set and 5th set 11-3, 11-5 and in a nerve racking 6th set, Quadri won 11-9.

We hope he wins the gold medal, not for Nigeria but for his own personal achievement. The way Nigerian government treats their sporting heroes is beyond deplorable, these athletes put everything on the line to rep green/white/green but in return they are treated poorly by the FG.

Before beating Timo last night the Nigerian table tennis star beat world no 7, Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Chih-Yuan 4-0 in Round 3.
