After the U23 Nigerian Olympic football team won their bronze medal at the just concluded Rio Olympics on Saturday, the team were gifted $390,000 by Japanese footballer Katsuya Takasu who has been a fan of Nigerian football.

He had made the pledge to gift team a few weeks back if they won a medal…but no one thought he was serious until he shocked us all by handing over the cheque to Mikel Obi.

Takasu gave team captain Mikel Obi $190,000 and $200,000 to Head coach, Siasia and the rest of the team to share equally. But Mikel has gone a step further to give his share away to Siasia.

According to Africanfootball.com, the team have also insisted that the NFF will not have any share in the money as they are insisting that they need to confirm the integrity of the donation.

We have resolved that no matter what, we will not surrender this cash to the NFF

Mikel has insisted all of us will get our share of the money. That we should not mind what the people in the NFF are saying.

He will make available this cash when he comes for next month’s AFCON qualifier against Tanzania in Uyo.
