Yesterday [July 4], some members of the Nigerian Senate raised a motion to make Bukola Saraki the acting president of the country in the absence of President Buhari is in London on sick leave and vice president Yemi Osinbajo who is the acting president but was away on official duty.

The motion was raised by Senator Eyinanya Abaribe representing Abia South raised the motion that the country had no president or acting president at the moment in the country, adding that, President Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Yemi Osinbajo were neither in the country, as at the time.

The motion was countered  by Senator Kabiru Marafa representing Zamfara Central. Marafa said:

If the President is not around, the Vice President should act, and if the Vice President is not around, the Senate President, who is the number 3 citizen should become acting President.”

Saraki who is the Senate President,  quickly ruled Senator Marafa “out of order.”

However some Nigerians are seeing the move as a play for the top office by Saraki, with many taking to social media to call out Saraki and his supporters for the move.
