Broadway star Laurel Griggs has died at the age of 13. David Rivlin, the grandfather of Broadway actress Laurel Griggs, shared the heart-breaking news on Facebook. "My attractive and talented granddaughter, Laurel Griggs, has passed away suddenly from a massive asthma attack", he wrote.
Griggs lived with her parents in New York City, where she balanced attending public school with her acting gigs, the page said.
Many of Griggs' former Once cast members also attended the funeral, which took place on November 7 at Park West Riverside in New York City. She also played Polly in the Tennesee Williams play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof on Broadway in 2013 alongside Scarlett Johansson. She also spent almost two years, between 2013 and 2015, performing as Ivanka in the Tony-award winning Once the Musical and had two uncredited appearances on the long-running NBC late-night sketch series Saturday Night Live in 2017. The late teen performed the role for 17 months between 2013 and 2015 and it became the gig she was best known for.
Griggs also starred as Ivanka in the musical, Once, and has appeared twice on Saturday Night Live in 2017 in James Franco and Kumail Nanjiani episodes. The fans of the young and talented actress are deeply saddened by her sudden demise. I'm so incredibly grateful that I got to know you.
As expected, those close to Griggs have already begun sharing tributes to her across social media. "My heart goes out to her family".
Griggs's Once co-star Lucas Papaelias posted about her death on Instagram writing, "We are all heartbroken and devastated". You will never be forgotten, and we will never stop loving you. "My heartfelt condolences to her friends and family who loved her so".
