New Music: Tiwa Savage – Ife Wa Gbona (Ti Wa O Ni Ba Je)

[audio:…Ife-Wa-Gbona.mp3|titles=Tiwa Savage – Ife Wa Gbona (Ti Wa O Ni Ba Je)]

Tiwa Savage ain’t playing, fresh off the heels of the Kele Kele video shoot,  she blesses us with another single in the form of Ife Wa Gbona (Ti Wa O Ni Ba je).

The new single, produced by So-Sick (producer of Dagrin’s PON PON PON), and featuring Leo1der, comes from her as yet untitled debut album.

I see the song’s traditional feel appealing to different age groups, and as usual Miss Savage delivers with powerful vocals.

Video Premiere: D’banj Mr Endowed

D’Banj premiered the video of his latest single “Mr Endowed” on last night’s Big brother Africa eviction show.

I don’t particularly care for this song and the video is pretty much what we’ve come to expect from D’Banj, fast cars, hot girls and exotic locations…but more polished & stylized. My fave bits were the cars though..a Lamborghini Roadster…lord have mercy, to drive it would be a dream!

And what was that baby at the beginning?! Scared me half to death!

Check it out and tell me what you think.

Julius Agwu on married life…

Comedienne Julius Agwu recently sat down with for an indepth interview covering a broad range of topics including his upcoming album, fashion and marriage. I found his insight on married life interesting, he says;

it’s been fun and wahala. You have to explain whatever you are doing at any point in time, unlike before. The fun of getting married to a comedian means my wife does not quarrel with me all the time because if she does, it will form part of my jokes.

More often than not when you get with a creative person, your relationship will always serve as material for them, so no surprises there. But what got me thinking was when he said you have  to explain whatever you are doing at any point in time, um…ok? I can only speak for myself but when in a committed relationship like marriage, I would want my husband to check in with me when we are not together, don’t get me wrong I am not expecting a minute by minute update, but it’s a sign of his respect of our relationship when he calls or texts to say “I’m at XYZ, I’ll be home at this time…

Still this doesn’t mean that a man who “checks in” isn’t with his jump -off when he’s “checking in” with you!

Girls would you wear these?

I have just died and gone to shoe heaven! This is ART! If I ever bought these shoes, which are from Rapahel Young’s Autunm-Winter 2010 collection I won’t even wear them! I’d put them on display and just stare at them! They probably retail for a gazillion dollars, so that won’t be happening anytime soon!

His geometric designs are inspired by architecture & what better structure to design around than a woman’s legs, ankles & feet?

What do you think? Yea or Nay?

On the Rise: Ty Ogunkoya

You’ve probably seen the face walking the runways of Dior, Versace, and Hermes or on campaigns for Benetton, Firetrap, and DKNY. For those who haven’t; allow me to introduce Ty Ogunkoya, full name Akintayo. Born & raised in Nigeria in 1990, currently based in London and New York, his distinct bone structure and mildly androgynous features made him one of the most prominent black models (male & female) on and off the runway in 2009/2010.

While the 6 ft 1 model sets the fashion world alight, he proves he’s not just another pretty face by combining his hectic career with studying for a degree, he gets extra points for that, IMO!

On the difficulty he’s faced being a model-student he says;

I can’t just jet off and work anywhere, which is frustrating. Everything is based around my university timetable. But I get a lot more direct bookings now, I booked a DKNY campaign based on doing the show.

New Music: Bez – More You

Bez is an alternative soul artist who has been generating a good amount of buzz in the Nigerian music industry after his appearance at the Hennessey Artistry 2009, a series of live concert parties in which 5 of the hottest music producers on the scene were partnered with 5 fast rising urban-music artistes, to battle it out for an eventual winner.

Though he didn’t win, he’s stayed on his grind, collaborating with various artistes and working on his own material. Today he blessed us with the video of his first single “More You”, a soulful track laden with haunting guitar riffs.

By any standard this is a quality video, directed by Kemi Adetiba and shot in Lagos, it tells a story and I LOVE IT!!

Spotted: Tuface & MI

Tuface Idibia has been spotted out and about in London Town. The chart topping singer is in town for a number of work commitments related to the promotion of his new album “The Unstoppable”, which has been a critical and commercial success.

He performed a sold out show at the Troxy London on the 30th July with R & B crooner Mario, shot a video for Excuse Me Sister the second single from the album and managed to find the time to host a number of parties at some of the city’s hottest Nigerian clubs. Mr. Incredible (MI) was also in London this past saturday as special guest at Coko bar, the rapper apparently came in to town to party…

All work and no play eh?

On the Rise: Bunmi Koko for Mrs. O

Watch out now! Michelle Obama has just commissioned London based fashion label Bunmi Koko, to design her a coat. Bunmi Olaye is creative director of the label she runs with her partner Francis Udom, and both have shown what a little initiative can achieve, after the young designer sent a prospectus of her designs to the White House and received a call asking if she would be interested in making a coat for Mrs. O.

Her partner Francis Udom recalls,

Someone said they were from the First Lady’s office and she was interested in a cream coat we had featured and could we make it for her.

We were stunned but kept calm and said we would make her a coat in September. I hope she likes it.

They made a splash in the UK press when Spice Girl Mel B wore a couture dress by the label to collect the group’s lifetime achievement award at this year’s Brit awards, making her one of the best dressed of the night, since then she has been spotted at media and other red carpet appearance in their designs, associating herself with the brand and becoming it’s unofficial muse.

Bunmi Koko also counts Mischa Barton, Alesha Dixon, and Estelle as fans, and is regularly featured in fashion bibles Marie Claire, ES Magazine, Glamour, In Style, and The Daily Telegraph.
